Jakarta, ibukotanews.com. — Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Affairs (Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections) Yusril Ihza Mahendra has called on the public to remain calm and refrain from making unilateral conclusions regarding the riot incident that occurred in the Pejompongan Raya Street area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (August 27, 2026).

Yusril stated that the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is currently conducting an investigation into several incidents that occurred after the demonstration, including the death of a citizen named Bambang and the alleged assault against a 12th-grade student named Faturrohman.

“Polda Metro Jaya is currently investigating the death of Bambang and the assault against Faturrohman. No conclusion can yet be drawn regarding who the perpetrators are and who should be held responsible for these two incidents,” Yusril said in a statement to journalists in Jakarta, Sunday (August 30, 2026).

Yusril added that authorities are still examining the sequence of events to determine fully who committed, ordered, or instigated the acts of violence.

“The investigation is being carried out to determine who gave the orders, who mobilized the actions, and who committed the assault. Those proven responsible based on evidence will certainly face firm law enforcement measures,” he said.

Yusril expressed hope that the investigation conducted by law enforcement officers would soon identify the perpetrators of the assault. Once evidence and facts have been obtained, those proven to have committed criminal acts must be processed according to the law. He also emphasized that authorities have not yet concluded the involvement of any individual, community group, or social organization.

This statement is important because various accusations have emerged on social media linking the riot to certain organizations or groups.

Public Urged to Remain Calm
Yusril stated that law enforcement authorities have not accused any individual, group, or social organization of being involved in the assault. Therefore, he urged the public not to be easily provoked by unverified information.

On the occasion, Yusril called on all elements of society to remain calm and avoid actions that could worsen the situation following the August 27 demonstration.

Yusril expressed appreciation to the participants of the demonstration, including protesters who came from Pati and other regions, as well as students who had conveyed their aspirations peacefully.

“I invite all elements of society to remain calm. I thank and appreciate the protesters who came from Pati and other regions, as well as the students who carried out the demonstration peacefully,” Yusril said.

He explained that the assault incident that resulted in Bambang’s death, as well as the assault against Faturrohman, occurred after protesters had left the DPR Building area and during a clash between groups of residents in the Pejompongan area. Therefore, Yusril urged that the incident not be used as a reason to carry out retaliatory actions or new acts of violence.

“Do not let this incident, which is still under investigation, trigger further unrest or violence. Let us leave the process to law enforcement authorities and work together to maintain public calm and order,” Yusril concluded.
